DCLM Daily Manna for Today 22 July 2024 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — “You Can Have Dominion Over Sin”
TOPIC: You Can Have Dominion Over Sin (DCLM Daily Manna 22 July 2024)
TEXT: Romans 6:1-10 (KJV)
6 What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound?
2 God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein?
3 Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death?
4 Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.
5 For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection:
6 Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin.
7 For he that is dead is freed from sin.
8 Now if we be dead with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with him:
9 Knowing that Christ being raised from the dead dieth no more; death hath no more dominion over him.
10 For in that he died, he died unto sin once: but in that he liveth, he liveth unto God.
KEY VERSE

DCLM Daily Manna Monday 22 July 2024 MESSAGE
In the fifteenth century, Portugal became the first European nation to participate significantly in African slave trading. The Portuguese primarily acquired slaves for labour on Atlantic African Island Plantations and later for plantations in Brazil and the Caribbean, though they also sent a small number to Europe.
Slavery in the United States ended by an act of Congress on January 1865 but unofficially continued for many more years. Slavery continued because many people were not aware that it had ended.
In today’s text, Apostle Paul likened sin and its captivity to slavery. Enslaved by iniquity, sinners are helpless, sold under sin. Sin drags its prey helplessly like condemned criminals to the gallows of execution.
To have dominion, sinners must be repurchased from the slave market of sin. To achieve this, God sent His only begotten Son to take our place in death so we can take His place in life.

Today, sinners can have freedom from sin and enjoy full dominion over it. Identification with the death and resurrection of Christ by faith cuts us away from the world of sin. As death separates the dead from the living, so does dying to sin through salvation separates us from the control of sin.
We must have this consciousness of our new status, deliberately and consciously refusing to allow sin to have dominion over us any longer. Constant watchfulness and sobriety will help us cut off all correspondence and transactions with sin.
However, we must avoid the abuse of grace. This error makes some people believe that grace is so broad and sufficient to cover them no matter their sins. Today’s passage answers this error: “Shall we continue in sin that grace may abound? God forbid”.

Heavenly Father,
I come to You in humility and repentance, acknowledging my sins and my need for Your grace. Lord Jesus, I believe You are the Son of God, who died for my sins and rose again to give me eternal life. I confess You as my Savior and Lord.
Forgive me, cleanse me with Your precious blood, and fill me with Your Holy Spirit. I turn away from my sinful ways and open my heart to You. Take control of my life and guide me in Your truth.
If you joined in that life-changing prayer, congratulations! We are happy that you have surrendered your life to Jesus!
