🖊️ Evangel Daily Meal 30 July 2024 COMMENTARY

On January 19, 2022, Open Doors, an international NGO advocating on behalf of persecuted Christians, released their annual report. The World Watch List assesses 50 countries where Christians face the most severe types of persecution.

The newly published data reveals significant changes in the situation of Christian minorities around the world. According to the research, the persecution of Christians has reached the highest levels since the World Watch List began nearly 30 years ago. “Across 76 countries, more than 360 million Christians suffer high levels of persecution and discrimination for their faith – an increase of 20 million since 2021.” 312

million Christians live in the top 50 countries alone. One in every seven Christians live under at least high levels of persecution or discrimination for their faith.

This may look frightening, but it is also a clarion call for Christians to be encouraged and continue with the Great Commission”…Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.” The persecution of Christians and Missionaries should be to us one of the signs of the ripeness of the field and not a threat capable of preventing us from fulfilling this mandate.

From our text today, we can see that Jesus wants his disciples and by implication today’s Christian to focus on the readiness of the field not the persecution that will be experienced. Knowing that the rewards promised by God are greater than the challenges.

No wonder, Paul after he had received a strong prophetic warning from a New Testament Prophet, Agabus, not to go to Jerusalem, insisted on going, he said, “…l am ready not to be bound only, but also to die at Jerusalem for the sake of the Lord Jesus Christ.” (Acts 21:13). In all of this, Paul requested the Church to pray for him because there were many adversary against his evangelistic open doors.

Today, the demand for prayer on behalf of missionaries and Christians all over the world is becoming necessary.

Heavenly Father,

I come to You in humility and repentance, acknowledging my sins and my need for Your grace. Lord Jesus, I believe You are the Son of God, who died for my sins and rose again to give me eternal life. I confess You as my Savior and Lord.

Forgive me, cleanse me with Your precious blood, and fill me with Your Holy Spirit. I turn away from my sinful ways and open my heart to You. Take control of my life and guide me in Your truth.

If you joined in that life-changing prayer, congratulations! We are happy that you have surrendered your life to Jesus!
