OPENING PRAYER:
Dear Lord, make me more like you through the power of your word as I meditate on it.
SCRIPTURE FOR TODAY: Acts 9:19b-31
19b Saul spent several days with the disciples in Damascus. 20 At once he began to preach in the synagogues that Jesus is the Son of God.
21 All those who heard him were astonished and asked, “Isn’t he the man who raised havoc in Jerusalem among those who call on this name? And hasn’t he come here to take them as prisoners to the chief priests?”
22 Yet Saul grew more and more powerful and baffled the Jews living in Damascus by proving that Jesus is the Messiah.
23 After many days had gone by, there was a conspiracy among the Jews to kill him, 24 but Saul learned of their plan. Day and night they kept close watch on the city gates in order to kill him. 25 But his followers took him by night and lowered him in a basket through an opening in the wall.
26 When he came to Jerusalem, he tried to join the disciples, but they were all afraid of him, not believing that he really was a disciple.
27 But Barnabas took him and brought him to the apostles. He told them how Saul on his journey had seen the Lord and that the Lord had spoken to him, and how in Damascus he had preached fearlessly in the name of Jesus.
28 So Saul stayed with them and moved about freely in Jerusalem, speaking boldly in the name of the Lord.
29 He talked and debated with the Hellenistic Jews,[a] but they tried to kill him. 30 When the believers learned of this, they took him down to Caesarea and sent him off to Tarsus.
31 Then the church throughout Judea, Galilee and Samaria enjoyed a time of peace and was strengthened. Living in the fear of the Lord and encouraged by the Holy Spirit, it increased in numbers.
QUESTIONS FOR MEDITATION:
► Q 1: What does the passage teach about God the Father, or God the Son or God the Holy Spirit?
► Q2: Is there any example for me to follow or not to follow?

Scripture Union Daily Guide 5 June 2025 Message:
Saul is now numbered among the disciples of the Way (Acts 9:19b). He came to persecute those who followed Jesus, and now he is the one who proclaims that Jesus is the Son of God (Acts 9:20). What a dramatic transformation! Saul became a new man. The old Saul was gone (c.f. 2 Corinthians 5:17).

Despite all bewildered questions and astonishment, Saul does not deviate from his mission but undertakes it with more passion (Acts 9:22). How about you? How do you carry out your task or mission in the face of pressures or criticisms?
Saul spends three years in Damascus and Arabia (cf. Galatians 1:13-18). His zeal for God even attracts hatred from the Jews and put him in danger of being killed. With this incident began series of suffering for Saul according to Jesus’ word to Ananias (Acts 9:16). From a persecutor, he now becomes the persecuted. But one thing that Saul was assured of is that, amid persecutions, God’s protection and deliverance were there for him. Let that be your assurance too!
And So:
Saul’s message is centred on Jesus. What is your message centred on?
* Any new insight or reinforcement of what you already know?
Closing Prayer:
Saul wakes up to a brand-new relationship with God and others based on the grace he has received. Ask God to use you as an instrument to bring grace to others still in the dark and thank God that you are saved by His grace.

Daily Guide Devotional For Today 5 June 2025(Thursday) Anthem
SONG – Praise waits for thee in Zion
Praise waits for Thee in Zion;
All men shall worship there
And pay their vows before Thee,
O God who hearest prayer.
Our sins rise up against us,
Prevailing day by day,
But Thou wilt show us mercy
And take their guilt away.
How blest the man Thou callest
And bringest near to Thee,
That in Thy courts forever
His dwelling place may be;
He shall within Thy temple
Be satisfied with grace,
And filled with all the goodness
Of Thy most holy place.
O God of our salvation,
Since Thou dost love the right,
Thou wilt an answer send us
In wondrous deeds of might.
In all earth’s habitations,
On all the boundless sea,
Man finds no sure reliance,
No peace, apart from Thee.
