SCRIPTURE: ACTS 7:17-29
17 But when the time of the promise drew nigh, which God had sworn to Abraham, the people grew and multiplied in Egypt,
18 Till another king arose, which knew not Joseph.
19 The same dealt subtilly with our kindred, and evil entreated our fathers, so that they cast out their young children, to the end they might not live.
20 In which time Moses was born, and was exceeding fair, and nourished up in his father's house three months:
21 And when he was cast out, Pharaoh's daughter took him up, and nourished him for her own son.
22 And Moses was learned in all the wisdom of the Egyptians, and was mighty in words and in deeds.
23 And when he was full forty years old, it came into his heart to visit his brethren the children of Israel.
24 And seeing one of them suffer wrong, he defended him, and avenged him that was oppressed, and smote the Egyptian:
25 For he supposed his brethren would have understood how that God by his hand would deliver them: but they understood not.
26 And the next day he shewed himself unto them as they strove, and would have set them at one again, saying, Sirs, ye are brethren; why do ye wrong one to another?
27 But he that did his neighbour wrong thrust him away, saying, Who made thee a ruler and a judge over us?
28 Wilt thou kill me, as thou diddest the Egyptian yesterday?
29 Then fled Moses at this saying, and was a stranger in the land of Madian, where he begat two sons.

* Q5: Is there any warning for me to heed?
Scripture Union Daily Guide 10 September 2024 Message:
Stephen’s continued account of the Jewish history now focuses on Moses, the person he was accused of blaspheming (6:11). He addresses two aspects: (a) the slavery in Egypt, (b) birth and growth of Moses.
The slavery in Egypt (vs.17-19): reflect on Stephen’s assertion that treachery and oppression by the Egyptians was a precursor to the fulfilment of God’s promises to Abraham (v.17; also consider Genesis 15:13-14 and Joshua 7:6-7). When difficulties and treacherous circumstances surround us, let us be assured that God is sovereign, and is working out something better within and through such circumstances (see Romans 8:28).
The birth and growth of Moses (vs.20-29):
Notice the circumstances of Moses’ birth, growth and training: born to a Jewish couple, adopted by Pharaoh’s daughter, brought up in a palace and educated in all the wisdom of Egyptians. All through, he never lost his identity as a Jew and created time to “visit his fellow Israelites” (v.23).
His desire to liberate the Israelites from oppression (vs.24-25), and to provide counsel and leadership to fellow Israelites (vs.26-28) were early pointers to how God was preparing him for the task ahead and would later become his mainstay occupation. But Moses fled to Midian! Meditate on Hebrew 11:24-27.

Daily Guide Devotional For Today 10 September 2024 (Tuesday) Anthem
O Lord of heav’n and earth and sea
1 O Lord of Heav’n and earth and sea,
To Thee all praise and glory be;
How shall we show our love to Thee,
Giver of all?
2 The golden sunshine, vernal air,
Sweet flowers and fruits Thy love declare;
Where harvests ripen, Thou art there,
Giver of all!
3 For peaceful homes, and healthful days,
For all the blessings Earth displays,
We owe Thee thankfulness and praise,
Giver of all!
4 Thou didst not spare Thine only Son,
But gav’st Him for a world undone,
And e’en that gift Thou dost outrun,
And give us all.
5 Thou giv’st the Spirit’s blessèd dower,
Spirit of life, and love, and power,
And dost His sev’nfold graces shower
Upon us all.
6 For souls redeemed, for sins forgiv’n,
For means of grace and hopes of Heav’n,
What can to Thee, O Lord, be giv’n,
Who givest all?
7 We lose what on ourselves we spend;
We have as treasure without end
Whatever, Lord, to Thee we lend,
Who givest all.
8 Whatever, Lord, we lend to Thee,
Repaid a thousandfold will be;
Then gladly will we give to Thee,
Giver of all.
9 To Thee, from whom we all derive
Our life, our gifts, our power to give;
O may we ever with Thee live,
Giver of all!
