SCRIPTURE for Today: PSALM 75:1-10
75 Unto thee, O God, do we give thanks, unto thee do we give thanks: for that thy name is near thy wondrous works declare.
2 When I shall receive the congregation I will judge uprightly.
3 The earth and all the inhabitants thereof are dissolved: I bear up the pillars of it. Selah.
4 I said unto the fools, Deal not foolishly: and to the wicked, Lift not up the horn:
5 Lift not up your horn on high: speak not with a stiff neck.
6 For promotion cometh neither from the east, nor from the west, nor from the south.
7 But God is the judge: he putteth down one, and setteth up another.
8 For in the hand of the Lord there is a cup, and the wine is red; it is full of mixture; and he poureth out of the same: but the dregs thereof, all the wicked of the earth shall wring them out, and drink them.
9 But I will declare for ever; I will sing praises to the God of Jacob.
10 All the horns of the wicked also will I cut off; but the horns of the righteous shall be exalted.

Scripture Union Daily Guide for Today 25 August 2024 Outline
Believers should be full of thanksgiving to God. Why is this so? Read v.1 again. Irrespective of turmoil, prevalence of evil and life’s challenges, give thanks to God. Amidst the prevailing wickedness of men (vs.1-3), Asaph led the leaders and the people of Israel in thanking God for all His past wondrous deeds.
This is putting God first ahead of the present happenings. Always meditate on the victory God has given and let other people’s testimonies encourage you. Thanksgiving stirs up your faith and confidence in the Lord to face and triumph over circumstances of life.
Praise and thanksgiving stir God up into more actions. From vs.2-10, can you find out other benefits that accompany thanksgiving? God speaks faith into our heart, reveals plan of actions against your prevailing challenges.
In today’s readings, because of Israel’s thanksgiving to God amid evil, oppression and decay in the land, God said He had set a time to judge evil and evildoers in the land and that He will set things in order by bringing up the righteous and bringing down the evildoers. These revelations and assurances from God caused His people to praise Him (v.9). Indeed, God reigns over circumstances of life, including your present challenges.

Daily Guide Devotional For Today 25th August 2024 (Sunday) Anthem
O Lord of heav’n and earth and sea
1 O Lord of Heav’n and earth and sea,
To Thee all praise and glory be;
How shall we show our love to Thee,
Giver of all?
2 The golden sunshine, vernal air,
Sweet flowers and fruits Thy love declare;
Where harvests ripen, Thou art there,
Giver of all!
3 For peaceful homes, and healthful days,
For all the blessings Earth displays,
We owe Thee thankfulness and praise,
Giver of all!
4 Thou didst not spare Thine only Son,
But gav’st Him for a world undone,
And e’en that gift Thou dost outrun,
And give us all.
5 Thou giv’st the Spirit’s blessèd dower,
Spirit of life, and love, and power,
And dost His sev’nfold graces shower
Upon us all.
6 For souls redeemed, for sins forgiv’n,
For means of grace and hopes of Heav’n,
What can to Thee, O Lord, be giv’n,
Who givest all?
7 We lose what on ourselves we spend;
We have as treasure without end
Whatever, Lord, to Thee we lend,
Who givest all.
8 Whatever, Lord, we lend to Thee,
Repaid a thousandfold will be;
Then gladly will we give to Thee,
Giver of all.
9 To Thee, from whom we all derive
Our life, our gifts, our power to give;
O may we ever with Thee live,
Giver of all!
Closing Prayer
“I will extol the Lord at all times; His praise will always be on my lips” (Psalm 34:1).
Prayer for the week
* Pray for those who have backslidded, that God will restore them in mercy • Pray that they will remember where they have fallen, and in humility return to God • Pray for grace for brethren to show love, visit and pray for them, to bring them back to the fold.
Offer a prayer of faith in line with Psalm 28:7 ‐ 8
7 The LORD is my strength and my shield; my heart trusted in him, and I am helped: therefore my heart greatly rejoiceth; and with my song will I praise him.
8 The LORD is their strength, and he is the saving strength of his anointed.
