SCRIPTURE for Today: PSALM 76:1-12

76 In Judah is God known: his name is great in Israel.

2 In Salem also is his tabernacle, and his dwelling place in Zion.

3 There brake he the arrows of the bow, the shield, and the sword, and the battle. Selah.

4 Thou art more glorious and excellent than the mountains of prey.

5 The stouthearted are spoiled, they have slept their sleep: and none of the men of might have found their hands.

6 At thy rebuke, O God of Jacob, both the chariot and horse are cast into a dead sleep.

7 Thou, even thou, art to be feared: and who may stand in thy sight when once thou art angry?

8 Thou didst cause judgment to be heard from heaven; the earth feared, and was still,

9 When God arose to judgment, to save all the meek of the earth. Selah.

10 Surely the wrath of man shall praise thee: the remainder of wrath shalt thou restrain.

11 Vow, and pay unto the Lord your God: let all that be round about him bring presents unto him that ought to be feared.

12 He shall cut off the spirit of princes: he is terrible to the kings of the earth.

Scripture Union Daily Guide for Today 26 August 2024 Outline

In vs.1-2, the Psalmist declares that the name of God is very great in Judah and in Israel, because He lives in Zion. This means, if God does not live with them, His awesome deeds and miracles will not be fully manifested.

Read 1 Corinthians 6:19-20. As Christians, we are God’s temple. For a believer to maintain a continuous dwelling of God in his or her life, He demands that we give and honour Him with all parts of our body (Romans 12:1).

As collection of believers, we are the church, the spiritual Israel, or the house of God. Therefore, the Spirit of God resides in His house (1 Corinthians 3:16).

From vs.3-12, mention some of the great deeds of God. God’s interventions and manifestations in the lives of believers should make us to be more committed to Him (v.11). Do not abandon God, His people, and work when He blesses you.

O Lord of heav’n and earth and sea
1 O Lord of Heav’n and earth and sea,
To Thee all praise and glory be;
How shall we show our love to Thee,

2 The golden sunshine, vernal air,
Sweet flowers and fruits Thy love declare;
Where harvests ripen, Thou art there,

For all the blessings Earth displays,
We owe Thee thankfulness and praise,

4 Thou didst not spare Thine only Son,

9 To Thee, from whom we all derive
Our life, our gifts, our power to give;
O may we ever with Thee live,

Lord Jesus, may I decrease and may you increase in my life.

Prayer for the week
* Pray for those who have backslidded, that God will restore them in mercy • Pray that they will remember where they have fallen, and in humility return to God • Pray for grace for brethren to show love, visit and pray for them, to bring them back to the fold.

Offer a prayer of faith in line with Psalms 54:2
“Hear my prayer, O God; give ear to the words of my mouth.”
