Question(s) for Reflection
Q2: Is there any example for me to follow or not to follow?
SCRIPTURE: ACTS 4:13-22
13 Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were unlearned and ignorant men, they marvelled; and they took knowledge of them, that they had been with Jesus.
14 And beholding the man which was healed standing with them, they could say nothing against it.
15 But when they had commanded them to go aside out of the council, they conferred among themselves,
16 Saying, What shall we do to these men? for that indeed a notable miracle hath been done by them is manifest to all them that dwell in Jerusalem; and we cannot deny it.
17 But that it spread no further among the people, let us straitly threaten them, that they speak henceforth to no man in this name.
18 And they called them, and commanded them not to speak at all nor teach in the name of Jesus.
19 But Peter and John answered and said unto them, Whether it be right in the sight of God to hearken unto you more than unto God, judge ye.
20 For we cannot but speak the things which we have seen and heard.
21 So when they had further threatened them, they let them go, finding nothing how they might punish them, because of the people: for all men glorified God for that which was done.
22 For the man was above forty years old, on whom this miracle of healing was shewed.

Scripture Union Daily Guide for Today 6th August 2024 Outline
Read vs.17-18 again. If you were one of the apostles, what would you have done? What did the Apostles do? Peter and John gave appropriate response to the Sanhedrin (vs.19-20). They remembered the instruction of Jesus in Matthew 10:16-26.
Vs.13-16: Although they were ordinary men who never had any education, their boldness was outstanding. They were so filled with the message and the love for Christ that no one could stop them. The strong evidence of the remarkable miracle which the leaders cannot deny caused them to caution the Apostles and release them (v.14).
Read vs 18-22 and notice the response of the Apostles when they were ordered not to preach the gospel.
1. They did not react in anger to the accusers but politely made their point (v.19; Proverbs 25:11).
2. They insisted that they were teaching things they have seen and heard (v.20).
How do you react when you are confronted by the opposition while presenting the gospel? After further threatening they allowed them to go. Why (v.21)?
Practice/Word Application
Thought: “Stand firm against him, and be strong in your faith. Remember that your family of believers all over the world is going through the same kind of suffering you are” (I Peter 5:9, NLT).
* Any new insight or reinforcement of what you already know?
Closing Prayer
Pray for Christians who are going through persecution all over the world.
Offer a prayer of faith in line with Luke 6:38
“Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again.”
