DAILY DEVOTIONAL FOR YOUTHS AND STUDENTS. Today’s devotional for 15th August 2026, inspired by the teaching of Apostle Arome Osayi. Topic: Two Things You Must Do Every Day to Become Spiritually Strong.

MEMORY VERSE: “And the child grew, and waxed strong in spirit, filled with wisdom: and the grace of God was upon him.” — Luke 2:40 (KJV)

TEXT: Luke 2:25-40

TODAY’S DEVOTIONAL

Many believers assume that being spiritually aware is automatic once you say the sinner’s prayer. It isn’t. Scripture never says Jesus simply grew; it says He “waxed strong in spirit.” That word “waxed” describes something gradual and deliberate, like a muscle built by repeated use, not a gift dropped fully formed into His lap. If the Son of God, sinless and filled with the Spirit from birth, needed a process to grow strong in spirit, no one reading this devotional today is exempt from that same process.

Notice what surrounded that growth in Luke 2. Before we ever read that the child grew and waxed strong, we meet Simeon and Anna in the temple — two people who were not there because of a rehearsed schedule or a reminder on their calendar. Simeon came “by the Spirit,” moved by an inward sensitivity that had been sharpened over years of waiting on God. That is the first discipline behind spiritual strength: staying yielded enough, daily, that you can be led in the moment and not just informed after the fact. A mind full of knowledge about God is not the same as a spirit trained to hear from Him.

The second discipline sits quietly beside the first: being continually filled with the Word. Luke says the child was “filled with wisdom,” and wisdom does not fill an empty vessel by accident. It comes from steady, unglamorous exposure to truth — the kind that happens in ordinary days, not just on mountaintop Sundays. Strength in the spirit is cumulative. Every day you feed on the Word and stay sensitive to the Spirit is a deposit; every day you skip both is a withdrawal you may not feel until pressure exposes the gap.

This matters because the world does not stay neutral toward an untrained spirit. There are forces at work that understand spiritual authority far better than many casual believers do, and they are not impressed by your intelligence, your income, or your influence. A person can be brilliant, capable, and successful by every visible measure and still be weak where it counts most — in the unseen realm where real battles for a life, a family, or a destiny are actually won or lost. Ability without spiritual strength is a house with an impressive front door and no lock.

If you are a student, this devotional is especially for you. It is possible to master a curriculum, top a class, and still walk through campus spiritually unguarded, because no textbook teaches sensitivity to the Holy Spirit or feeds you the Word while you sleep. The discipline of opening your Bible before you open your notes, and the discipline of pausing to listen before you assume you already know what to do, will do more for your future than one more late night of cramming. Build the habit now, while the stakes of a missed day feel small, so it is already strong by the time the stakes are not.

None of this happens in a single dramatic encounter. Simeon’s readiness on the day he met the infant Jesus was the fruit of every ordinary day before it that he stayed sensitive to God. Your strength for tomorrow’s test, decision, or temptation is being formed today, in the quiet minutes you give or withhold from the Word and from listening prayer. Waxing strong is not a title God hands out; it is a pattern He grows in those who show up for it daily.

KEY POINT: Spiritual strength is not received in a moment; it is grown daily through the Word and a sensitive, listening walk with the Holy Spirit.

DAILY PRAYER

Father, I do not want to stay spiritually weak while the world around me grows bolder in darkness. Teach me to feed daily on Your Word until wisdom fills me the way it filled Your Son, and make my spirit sensitive enough to hear and obey You in the moment, not just after. Where I have relied on my own ability instead of Your strength, forgive me and retrain me. Let me wax strong in spirit, day by day, until my life carries the weight of everything You have called me to, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
