TEXT: 2 Samuel 21:1-6
TODAY’S DEVOTIONAL
David was king. He had won his wars, united a divided nation and settled into the throne God promised him. Then the rain stopped. One year passed, then a second, then a third. Nothing in his administration explained it. There was no policy failure to point at, no invading army, no obvious sin in the camp. The famine simply would not lift. So David stopped trying to reason it out and went to ask God directly.
The answer, when it came, had nothing to do with anything David could have researched. It was for Saul, and for his bloody house, because he slew the Gibeonites. A promise broken generations earlier, by a king who was already dead and buried, was still holding back the rain over an entire nation. No adviser could have told David that. No record in the palace held it. Only God did.
There is a kind of information you cannot get by thinking harder. Much of what troubles us does have a natural cause and a natural remedy, and we should look for those first and act on them honestly. But some patterns survive every reasonable fix. The same disappointment keeps arriving in different clothes. The same door keeps shutting at the same point. When that happens, what is missing is not more information. It is revelation.
Notice too that David waited three years. He asked, and heaven did not rush. That gap is exactly where most of us give up and start calling the problem normal. But the delay was not silence for its own sake. It was God making sure David wanted the truth badly enough to keep coming back. The promise in Jeremiah 33:3 is real: God answers, and He shows us things we could never have worked out on our own. The timing of the answer, however, belongs to Him.
If you are a student, take this seriously now rather than later. You already know how to research; you do it for assignments every week. But there are things about your family, your habits and your repeated failure in one subject or one area of character that no amount of reading will explain. Between lectures and assignments, build the habit of asking God about your own life. Bring your questions to Him in the morning before you bring them to your friends. A young person who learns to inquire of God carries into university, and into everything after it, a clarity his classmates cannot buy.
And when God does show you something, do something with it. David did not stop at knowing why; he acted on what he had been shown, and the land was healed. Revelation that changes nothing is merely interesting. Ask God where the doors were opened. Be honest about what He shows you. Close those doors through repentance and obedience, and let the rain come back over your life.
KEY POINT: Some problems will never yield to research, only to revelation, so bring your questions to God and stay there until He answers.

DAILY PRAYER
Father, thank You for being a God who answers when I call. I admit that there are things in my life I have tried to explain and could not, and things I have tried to fix and could not. Today I bring them to You instead of to my own understanding. Show me what I cannot see. Give me the patience to keep asking until You speak, and the honesty to obey what You reveal. Where doors have been opened that should have stayed shut, help me close them and walk clean before You. Teach me, even in my studies and my youth, to seek You first, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
