DAILY DEVOTIONAL FOR YOUTHS AND STUDENTS. Today’s devotional for 10th September 2026, inspired by the teaching of Apostle Arome Osayi. Topic: Why God Hasn’t Answered Your Prayer.

TODAY’S DEVOTIONAL
When Jesus taught His disciples to pray, He did not begin with a formula. He began with a warning. “Be not as the hypocrites are,” He said. It is a strange place to start. We expect Him to tell us what to say, and instead He tells us who not to be. That order is deliberate. Before He teaches us the words, He deals with the heart behind them, because a prayer can be perfectly worded and still land nowhere. Many of us have been asking why heaven seems silent, when the real question is not what we said but who we were saying it to.
Look closely at what Jesus said the hypocrites did. They prayed in the synagogues and on the street corners so that they would be seen of men. Their problem was not the location. It was the audience. Prayer is an act of exchange with a Person, and whoever your prayer is addressed to is the one who answers it. If your prayer is designed for people to hear, then people are the ones who respond, and Jesus said plainly that their applause is the whole reward. There is nothing left over. You collected your payment at the door.
This is why the Lord’s remedy was so simple and so uncomfortable. Enter your closet. Shut the door. The shut door is not about privacy for its own sake; it is about removing every other audience until only the Father is left. Something happens in a room where nobody is watching. The performance dies. The voice you use when people are listening falls away, and what is actually in you comes out. God is not impressed by volume or vocabulary. He responds to a heart that has stopped auditioning.
There is also a second reason prayers seem unanswered, and it is gentler than we assume. Sometimes God does not change the situation because He is changing you inside it. A man may pray for years about poverty and receive, instead of money, a vision of his own future. That looks like silence. It is not. It is God refusing to hand you a smaller thing when He has decided to give you Himself. Your circumstances stay the same for a while so that your knowledge of Him can grow past them, and when you finally come out, you are carrying something no shortcut could have produced.
If you are a student, hear this carefully. School trains you to be seen. Grades are public, results are posted, and everything you do is measured by an audience. That habit follows people into their walk with God, and before long they are praying the way they write an exam, hoping someone marks it well. But your intelligence, your grades, and your sharpness cannot negotiate with God. He is not unimpressed with your mind; He simply refuses to be reached by it. The one advantage you have as a young person is time in the quiet place, before the crowd gets big enough to become your audience. Guard that time now. A student who learns to shut the door at eighteen will not have to unlearn performance at forty.
So examine your prayer life honestly, without condemning yourself. Ask whether you pray differently when you are alone than when others can hear you. Ask whether you have grown quiet toward God because He did not do the specific thing you named. Then go back into the room, shut the door, and speak to your Father as one who has no reputation to protect. The Father who sees in secret is still the Father who rewards openly, and He has not once forgotten the person praying where nobody could see.
KEY POINT: Prayer is answered by the One it is addressed to, so shut the door on every other audience and speak only to your Father.

DAILY PRAYER
Father, teach me to pray to You and not to the people around me. Take from my heart every desire to be seen, and give me a love for the secret place where only You are listening. Where I have grown cold because You did not answer the way I wanted, restore my confidence in Your goodness and help me to trust that You are working in me even when nothing around me has moved. Give me the discipline to shut the door daily, and let my life carry the reward of a hidden walk with You, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
