TEXT: Exodus 33:7-11
TODAY’S DEVOTIONAL
Many young believers pray, but few ever settle down long enough to listen. We bring our list, say amen, and leave, then wonder why God feels distant. Yet Scripture shows that God has always wanted more than a list-reader. He wants a friend. In the wilderness, Moses pitched a tent outside the camp and called it the tabernacle of the congregation. Anyone who sincerely sought the Lord could go there. The invitation was open, and it still is.
Notice what happened when Moses entered. The cloud came down, and the Lord talked with him face to face, as a man speaks to his friend. That phrase does not mean a noisy, one-sided speech. It means a real exchange, where you can ask God questions, receive answers, and even sense Him raising what you forgot to ask. Hearing God clearly is the fruit of friendship, and friendship grows through time spent together.
Sadly, the rest of Israel stood at their tent doors and watched Moses go in. They admired his encounters but never walked into one themselves. That is a warning for us. It is easy to enjoy other people’s testimonies, sermons and worship songs while never building a personal history with God. Secondhand fire cannot keep you warm on a cold night. God wants your own encounter, and your own voice in His presence.
So how do you seek Him so that you can hear Him? First, go outside the camp. Moses moved away from the noise, and you may need to as well. Switch off the phone, close the group chats and find a quiet corner. Second, go with your whole heart, as Jeremiah 29:13 promises. Third, go regularly. A friend you meet once a month will never know your voice. Choose a fixed time and place, and keep it. Fourth, keep your Bible open, because a healthy experience with God will always be confirmed by His Word. If what you sense contradicts Scripture, it is not God.
To the student and young person: You live in a world that rewards speed, and your attention is pulled in a hundred directions between lectures, assignments, social media and side hustles. Joshua, a young man, did not leave the tent when Moses went back to the camp. He stayed behind to linger in the presence. That is how a young person becomes a spiritual giant, one stolen quiet hour at a time. Before you open your textbook, open your heart. Before you scroll, sit still. Ask God for direction about your course, your friendships, your future, and then wait long enough to hear. Do not rush to the next thing. Let Him finish speaking.
Finally, remember that the God who commanded light to shine out of darkness has shined in your heart, according to 2 Corinthians 4:6. The light is already in you. You are not begging a silent God; you are tuning in to a Father who has already moved close. This week, set a time to meet Him, write down what He shows you, and test it against the Word. Over time you will notice His voice becoming familiar, steady and clear.
KEY POINT: God invites every believer into face-to-face friendship, and you hear Him clearly when you leave the noise, seek Him wholeheartedly, and return consistently with your Bible open.

DAILY PRAYER
Father, thank You for inviting me into friendship with You. Forgive me for the times I prayed and left without listening. Give me a hunger to seek You with my whole heart, and help me create quiet space in my busy schedule. Open my ears to hear Your voice clearly, and let every word I receive be confirmed by Your Word. Keep me from distractions that steal my time with You. Make me like Joshua, one who stays in Your presence. Lead me in my studies, my relationships and my future, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
