TODAY’S DEVOTIONAL
Every person God intends to use passes through a route before the assignment begins, and that route rarely looks like the destination. At Jesus’ baptism, heaven spoke approval over Him: “This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.” It was the highest commendation a life could receive. Yet the very next movement was not a platform; it was a wilderness. The Spirit that descended as a dove immediately led Him away from applause into a place of testing, hunger, and silence.
This is the pattern many miss. We assume approval should be followed immediately by promotion, that being affirmed by God means the next stop is influence and visibility. But the route God takes before He uses a life is almost always a hidden one, a season where no one is celebrating you, where the only witnesses are God and your own resolve. What happens in that unseen place determines whether the platform, when it comes, will be safe to stand on.
Part of that route is learning true reverence. A generation that leans on its own sufficiency, its systems, its intelligence, its ability to manage life without depending on God, will find that prayer quietly dies inside it. Worship itself was never meant to be a performance; from the beginning it has required something to be surrendered, some pride laid down, some self-confidence given up, before it becomes real. God is not simply listening for song; He is watching for sacrifice.
If you are a student navigating exams, ambition, and the pressure to be seen as successful early, understand that the season where nobody is clapping for you is not wasted time; it may be the very route God is using to prepare you. Resist the urge to force a platform before its time. The discipline you build when uncelebrated, the honesty you keep when no one is checking, the obedience you practice in small things, are what will carry weight later. Do not despise the wilderness; it is doing something in you that applause never could.
Growth in God is not mysterious; it comes through obedience and sensitivity to His voice. When conviction rises after a wrong word or a compromised choice, that discomfort is not condemnation, it is an invitation to realign quickly. The believer who learns to notice and respond to that gentle correction develops a relationship with God that striving alone could never produce. Many exhaust themselves trying to fight life’s storms with human skill and experience while Christ is present but unconsulted, when a simple, trusting word to Him would have stilled what effort could not.
The route is not punishment; it is preparation. Every hidden obedience, every private act of worship, every moment you choose surrender over self-sufficiency is God shaping the vessel He intends to use. Trust the process even when it is unglamorous. What He builds in the wilderness, He will one day display in the open.
KEY POINT: Before God displays a life in public, He almost always prepares it in a private wilderness of surrender and obedience.

DAILY PRAYER
Father, thank You for the route You have chosen for my life, even the parts I do not fully understand. Teach me true reverence and help me surrender the pride and self-sufficiency that keep me from real worship. Give me grace to remain faithful in the hidden, uncelebrated seasons, and sensitivity to Your voice when You correct me. Where I have been striving in my own strength, teach me instead to trust You completely. Prepare me quietly so that whatever You build in me can stand safely in the open, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
