Daily Fountain devotional by the Anglican Communion for Friday, 19th June 2026. Topic: Whatever a Man Sows, That Shall He Also Reap.
READ: Galatians 6:1-10
MESSAGE
God is never a debtor to anyone. He has ordained life in such a way that it works on sowing and reaping. As long as the earth remains, the season of sowing and reaping will never cease (Gen. 8:22). More importantly, the faithfulness of God is demonstrated in the reality of sowing and reaping in the same kind and quality.
This is exactly what Jesus means when He says “a good tree cannot bear bad fruit nor can a bad tree bear good fruit” (Matt. 7:18). Again, in Matthew 12:33, He says, “…a tree is known by its fruits.” In all of these, we are made to see that reaping or harvesting does not take a different turn in quality; it is a product of the kind of seed planted.
This is what Paul emphasised in our passage today: Do not be deceived, whatsoever a man sows that shall he also reap. Sowing to the flesh brings corruption while sowing to the Spirit brings eternal life (Gal. 6:7-8). Beloved, let us always note that a man will always reap whatever he sows. As Christians, the focus of our lives must not be to promote the flesh but to grow daily in the Spirit by deliberate investment.
Our labours will definitely not be in vain. A man who gives himself to satisfying the desires of the flesh will automatically reap corruption and eternal death. In addition, whatever we sow in terms of our attitude to our homes, education, business or our relationship with others, will determine our harvest. Therefore, let us be careful what we sow because we shall definitely reap in no distant time.
PRAYER POINT
Dear Lord, please teach me to constantly sow to the Spirit so that I can reap life eternal. Amen.
